“Change is the only constant in life”

I’ve heard “Change is the only constant in life” and now I know it’s true.
My name is Suzy and I’m a 51 year old expert in storing fat, I should be I’ve been doing it all my life, but a few weeks ago my Doctor informs me that I must give up my life long career of storing fat by having a little life changing operation called Gastric bypass.
I grew up in a somewhat dysfunctional family with a history of caloricly challenged members going back several generation. As luck would have it, over time I inherited most of the flaws from the family gene pool, including faulty female parts that expired long before their expiration date, allergies from sneezing to rashes and I was recently diagnosed with diabetes, one of those gene pool flaws they snuck in on me later in life. Long before I knew the true scope of the flawed family gene pool, I had a beautiful yet unsuspecting baby girl. Luckily for me, that bundle of joy I named Bonnie, has come to the aid of her Mom even after I subjected her to the same faulty genes that plagued my life.
After hearing the news of my pending surgery, Bonnie rolled up her sleeves and started surfing the net, reading everything that she could find to help lead me down the path of knowledge. I’d like to believe that it was an act of love for me, but somewhere along that informational path, it must have hit her that she could be next in line.
OK, it was me who thought she could be next, so being a pushy but loving Mom, I told her maybe she should look in to joining me in losing weight. After combing through all of the research she could find and talking with her doctor, she found out that, unlike my Gastric Bypass surgery, a Lap-Band operation would be best in her case. So now we are heading down two paths, with different doctors, different types of weight loss surgeries that will be scheduled a few weeks apart, that will hopefully lead us to the same place at the end of the path.
Along that path we plan on finding, stealing or experimenting until we create delicious recipes by the ounce to delight the taste buds, interesting exercises for the gravitationally challenged and valuable resources to successfully avoid the potholes that might come up in a weight loss journey to share with our new friends.
I hope you will come along with us and read Bonnie’s Blog at
